Hay.

I just got the following off ebay for £70 incl shipping.
g4 1.42 ghz
512mb pc 2700 ram (ddr 333)
40 gb drive
airport and a bunch of other stuff.
If people don't mind, I have a few questions:
1: was the above a good deal for the price?
2: Once i've upgraded the ram, i'll be using this for garage band. How accessable is this with vo?
3: For the above usage, should I put leopard or tiger on this machine? Is there many differences in vo in each version of the os?
I first thought of putting tiger on due to it being less resource intencive despite me putting another 1.5gb of ram in there, but then I thought that screenreading might be better in leopard.
Any answers to any of the above will be greatfully received.
Chears.

That was a steal! A great offer I might add considering that macs are not cheap, especially the ibooks, power books or the older blue and white imacs.

For what you got, I would say put Leopard on it, it will definitely run that is for sure. If you are going to do some audio editing/production, the extra ram couldn't hurt.

My opinion I would say is to go with leopard because it is more up to date and in my opinion Voice over does a bit better job over all and I think you will be quite impressed.

Garage band is accessible yes but I'm still looking for an easier way to use it. It doesn't seem to be as easy as it could be. You can refer to www.icanworkthisthing.com to tutorials on voice over working with garage band and a few other things like audactiy I've yet to try this out. If there was an adobe audition for the mac I'd use it in a heart beat.

Hay - thanks for the reply:
The computer came on monday, turns out it has a 80gb drive but no airport but its on ethernet atm.
Observations:
Nice feeling box - looks like it will be a bit of a pain to take apart though.
It came with a tiger disk which I figgured i'd try since there was no os.
Installation was largely floorless, but I did get a bit confused when it didn't show me any volumes to install the os on - why on earth do they make you hav to go into disk utillitty?
Install was quick and I like the way that it gives you the quick vo tour automaticly - had me up and running quickly.
Garageband is a pain - I really don't like it although it might be vo just not working that well with it.
I don't mind putting leopard on it so long as vo and garageband are going to work better, but it does seem a shame to have something thats going to hog it more when i'm not really going to use any of the new features.
Conclusion: I quite like it, but i'm just not seeing anything that makes it stand out from xp at this stage.
Do you really think leopard is the way to go?
Thanks for any responces.
